Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - Brandon Moore took a no-hitter into the fifth inning but it was not enough as the Savannah Sand Gnats fell to the Lakewood BlueClaws (16-13) 3-1 Friday night at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ. Savannah still leads Augusta and Greenville, who both lost, by two games in the SAL Southern Division.

Lakewood DH Anthony Hewitt interrupted Moore's no-hit bid with a solo home run leading off the bottom of the fifth to give the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead. Lakewood made it 3-0 in the sixth with a Domingo Santana single, a Jonathan Villar triple which scored Santana and an RBI groundout from Jiwan James which scored Santana.

The Gnats (18-11), who had just five hits all night, scored their only run in the eighth inning. Singles from C Dock Doyle and 2B Alonzo Harris put runners at the corners with one out and brought the tying run to the plate. CF Pedro Zapata grounded out to first to bring home Doyle, and the Gnats rally stalled down two runs.

LHP Jimmy Fuller(3-1, 1.87) is scheduled to throw for Savannah in game two of the series in Lakewood against the BlueClaws' Jonathan Pettibone (1-0, 3.45) Saturday at 4:05 pm.

Savannah returns home on Wednesday, May 12th to take on the Rome Braves in a four-game series. For tickets and more information, please call (912) 351-9150.
