LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws fell behind 8-0 early on Saturday and couldn't recover, falling to the Savannah Sand Gnats 11-7.

Lakewood starter Jonathan Pettibone (1-1) only made it through 1.2 innings, giving up six hits and eight runs (three earned). After scoring twice in the first, Savannah (19-11) added six more in the second to jump out to a big early lead.

The BlueClaws (16-14) answered back with three in the bottom of the second. Jeremy Barnes singled in one run with another scoring on an errant throw by third baseman Jefry Marte. Second baseman Alonzo Harris then committed another error to let Leandro Castro reach and plate Lakewood's third run of the game.

None of the three runs were earned against Gnats starter Jimmy Fuller (4-1 1.63), who walked four and struck out seven in five innings.

Once Fuller was out of the game in the sixth the BlueClaws cut even more into the lead.

Trailing 9-3, Jiwan James reached on an error, Jonathan Villar singled, and Jeremy Barnes doubled home a run. Leandro Castro them tripled in two to cut the deficit to three, and Darin Ruf brought Castro in on a sacrifice fly to make it a 9-7 game.

That was as close as the BlueClaws would get. Savannah added two insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, and cruised to their league-leading 19th win.

Wilmer Flores came one base hit short of the cycle, belting his fifth home run in the fifth inning and driving in two runs. Pedro Zapata and Alex Gregory also drove in three for the Gnats.

Sunday will be a Mothers' Day matinee at FirstEnergy Park. First pitch is set for 1:05 pm as Jarred Cosart (3-1 2.70) makes his second start for the BlueClaws since coming off the 7-day DL. He will face lefty Dan Gorski (1-1 2.70).
