Bullpen Extinguishes Suns in 11-1 Win

Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets got six scoreless innings of one-hit baseball out of a bullpen that once again seems to be finding its groove in an 11-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday night from Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Mitch Lively, Ryan Verdugo and Jason Jarvis allowed just three baserunners in the last six innings of the GreenJackets blowout win over Hagerstown. Lively (1-1) got the win with three scoreless one-hit innings, walking one and striking out three.
The Suns got on the board against starter Devan Kline in the second inning on a JP Ramirez RBI double. Prior to the double, a mix-up on the basepaths resulted in two Suns standing at second simultaneously and an out for the GreenJackets. Because of the baserunning gaffe, the one run on Ramirez's double was the only one of the inning.
Augusta then scored 11 unanswered runs, taking the lead in the second on back-to-back RBI singles by Sharlon Schoop and Daniel Cook. In the third, Tommy Joseph drilled a solo home run to put the Jackets up 3-1. Augusta scored four more times in the fourth with Hector Sanchez drilling his first home run of the season to start the inning. Nick Liles singled home a run - part of a three-hit night for Liles - and Chris Dominguez doubled home a pair before being thrown out at third attempting to stretch the hit into a triple.
With the bullpen holding the Suns at bay, the GreenJackets scored four more times in the eighth to put things on ice. Liles doubled home two more, Evan Crawford tripled home Liles and Dominguez singled home Crawford to give Augusta a ten run advantage.
Kline threw three innings in the start and walked four, but surrendered only two hits and one run in his second professional start. He struck out five Suns hitters and fanned the side in the first inning.
Jack McGeary (2-1) took the loss for the Suns. He was tagged for six runs in three innings on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
On Sunday afternoon, the GreenJackets will send Jorge Bucardo (1-2, 2.67) to the mound against fellow righty Paul Demny (1-1, 3.91) in the third game of the series. First pitch will come at 2:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 1:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
