SALISBURY, Md. - Delmarva executed a double steal of home and second in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the lead and added an insurance run in the eighth to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-2, in South Atlantic League action at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium Saturday night.
With the victory, Delmarva improves to 16-13, while Charleston falls to 13-17
In the seventh, Delmarva put men at first and third with two outs against reliever Dickson Marquez (0-1). Marquez had T.J. Baxter picked off of first, but during the rundown, Mike Ohlman successfully stole home to give the Shorebirds a 3-2 lead.
Tyler Kolodny increased the advantage to 4-2 in the eighth with a one-out RBI double to shallow centerfield.
Closer Josh Dowdy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to lock up his fourth save of the season.
Charleston led 2-0 after the first inning, after Jimmy Paredes reached on an infield single against starter Jesse Beal, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch. Luke Murton notched the second run following his hit by pitch, steal of second, and sprint home on Rob Lyerly's RBI fielder's choice.
That was the last of the RiverDog runs, as the offense was blanked through the final eight innings. Beal (2-2) picked up the win in 7.0 innings of five-hit ball with two walks and three strikeouts. Randy Henry also penned a scoreless eighth for the Shorebirds.
Delmarva trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the first on Ty Kelly's RBI double against RiverDogs starter Kelvin Perez.
The score was knotted at 2-2 in the second on Mike Ohlman's RBI groundout to bring home Tyler Kolodny, who reached on a leadoff error.
Perez settled down after that retiring 12 of 13 batters at one stretch, but still took a no-decision in his 6.0 innings, allowing just three hits while walking two and sinking two.
