Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - On a chilly May evening, the Kannapolis Intimidators bats went cold again against the West Virginia Power as they failed to capitalize on a number of chances from the plate in a 3-2 loss in game two of a four game series on Saturday night.

The Power (13-16) got on the scoreboard with two runs in the second inning as Rogelio Noris hit a wind-aided home run to center field to take a 1-0 lead before Jose Hernandez doubled and he was brought home by Wesley Freeman who tripled to make it a 2-0 game.

Cameron Bayne started for the Intimidators (14-16) and pitched well but allowed two runs in 5.2 innings of work striking out six. The Intimidators tied the ballgame up with one swing as Ian Gac hit a two-out two-run double in the fifth inning off started Gabriel Alvarado. Alvarado went 4.2, his longest outing of the season, and allowed those two unearned runs, but fell an out short of his first win of the season.

Jason Erickson (1-2) was the first man in relief of Alvarado and worked 1.1 scoreless for the win. Zach Foster pitched a clean ninth allowing a base hit for his third save of the season.

Ian Gac recorded three hits and Daniel Wagner had two. The Intimidators were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base in the ballgame.

The loss is the second straight for Kannapolis and it drops them two games below .500. Charged with the task of turning things around is Matt Wickswat as he will take to the mound against Melkin Laureano at 2:05 pm on Sunday.
