STAT OF THE DAY: The RiverDogs are expected to throw four right-handed pitchers in this season. The Shorebirds hit .274 against right-handed pitching and just .198 against left-handed pitching. The Shorebirds are 10-9 against RH starters.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds travel to Charleston, South Carolina for game one against the Yankees affiliate after a tough three-game series in Savannah. The Shorebirds were swept over three games and outscored 20-2. Last night, Savannah scored four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-0 win. The Shorebirds stand in fourth place in the Northern Division, six games back of Greensboro.
DELMONICO CONTINUES HOT PLAY: Nicky Delmonico takes a modest four-game hit streak and an impressive 14-game on-base streak into game one against Charleston. His .267 batting average is the highest it has been since the fifth game of the season (April 9, .297). During the on-base streak, his batting average has soared from .132 to .267 and his on-base percentage has jumped from .250 to .376. Since April 17, Delmonico has the ninth best batting average (.375) amongst all "Low-A" hitters.
WEBB SNAPS OUT OF IT: Brenden Webb had just two hits in his last 26 at-bats entering last night's game. He went 3-for-3 with a walk. It was his first multi-hit game since April12. Webb's batting average rose from .195 to .225 after the game.
DAVID BAKER ADDED: RHP David Baker, the Orioles 14th round selection in '09, was added to the roster yesterday. He is expected to work out of the bullpen. Baker made nine starts for the Shorebirds last season and went 3-4 with a 2.82 ERA. Jake Cowan was placed on the temporary inactive list.
HITTING WOES IN LAST FIVE: The Shorebirds have scored just seven total runs in the last five games. They have been held to just one or fewer runs in four of the last four games. The Shorebirds are 28-of-147 (.190) in the last five games. The Shorebirds went 0-for-17 in the Savannah series when hitting with runners in scoring position.
