SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Lakewood offense was sluggish until the latter part of Saturday evening's ballgame as the Savannah Sand Gnats cruised to a 5-3 victory at Grayson Stadium.

First pitch temperature was 92 degrees and the BlueClaws didn't score until a three-run 8th inning brought them back to within a run at 4-3. Savannah scored one run in the bottom of the 8th to cushion their lead entering the 9th inning for closer T.J. Chism who recorded his second save of the season.

The 'Claws scored three times in the 8th inning thanks to three errors and just one base hit. Aaron Altherr's RBI single was the lone RBI in the inning as all three of Lakewood's runs were unearned off reliever Jeffrey Walters.

The offense continues to struggle for the BlueClaws in their current five-game losing streak. In their previous 46 innings before the three-run 8th inning, the BlueClaws had scored just eight runs, and in their five-game losing streak have now scored 2.2 runs per game.

The BlueClaws will take on the Sand Gnats in the second of four games in Savannah Sunday afternoon. Lakewood will send Kenny Giles (0-1, 4.76) to face Savannah's Rafael Montero (2-1, 3.58) as the BlueClaws try to snap a five-game losing streak. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
