Asheville Tourists News Release

Lexington came into town Saturday night with a plan to set the tone in their four-game series with Asheville, and set the tone they did. The legends have been playing some good baseball over the past few days and caught the Tourists in the midst of a three-game losing streak. That losing streak became four after Saturday night's 5-1 defeat.

Legends starting pitcher Nick Tropeano (2-2, 1.87) was the story. He sat down Tourists hitters one by one. Asheville managed just one hit in the first six innings of the game; a two-out single to right by Delta Cleary Jr. Delta's single was the only ball that left the infield in those six innings. Tropeano struck out eight in his seven innings of work.

Tourists' starter Chris Jensen (2-1, 4.60) ran into some trouble in the second inning. After retiring the first batter, the next five Legend hitters reached base. Chris Epps roped a two-run double down the first base line and Jordan Scott drove in a run with a groundout. Lexington led 3-0 after two.

The Legends plated one more in the third when Brandon Meredith drove in a run on a double into the corner. They tacked on another in the fifth on Drew Murin's RBI double. Lexington totaled five doubles in the game and had 10 hits overall.

Jensen did manage to complete five innings and he turned the game over to the Tourists bullpen who pitched well once again. Geoff Parker, Jefri Hernandez, and Nelson Gonzalez combined to throw four scoreless frames.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jordan Ribera connected with his first Home Run of the season and spoiled a shutout by the Legends pitching staff. The Home Run gave the fans something to cheer about, but Asheville could not mount another rally. The Tourists totaled just four hits in the game; although three of their base knocks went for extra-bases.

On a local note, Legends infielder John Hinson was put in the game in the late innings as a replacement for Delino Deshields Jr. Hison graduated from AC Reynolds High School right here in Asheville and received a huge ovation from the home crowd when he took his only at-bat in the game. Hinson flied out to deep centerfield.
