Legends Top Tourists 5-1 Behind Tropeano

Nick Tropeano allowed two hits in seven shutout innings as the Lexington Legends won the opener of a four-game series over the Asheville Tourists 5-1.

Tropeano struck out eight batters and walked two. A single by Delta Cleary in the third inning and a double by Harold Riggins in the seventh were the only two balls hit to the outfield off Tropeano.

The Legends scored three runs in the second inning against Tourists starter Chris Jensen. With one out, singles by Alex Todd and Brandon Meredith and a walk to Roberto Pena loaded the bases. Chris Epps double to right field, scoring two runs. After Delino DeShields Jr. walked, Jordan Scott's infield out scored Pena with the third run of the inning.

The Legends added a run in the third inning on doubles by Matt Duffy and Meredith and another in the fifth on doubles by Zach Johnson and Drew Muren.

Asheville's only run came on a ninth-homer by Jordan Ribera off Legends reliever Murilo Gouvea.

Tropeano (2-2) was the winner. Jenson (2-1) took the loss.
