PREVIEW: The Shorebirds were one strike away from a game one win before Greensboro tied the game in the ninth and won the game in the tenth, 8-7. The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers meet for game two of the series on Friday night. The Shorebirds are one game back of Greensboro for first place. The eight runs allowed by the Shorebirds were the most since the second game of the season (8-4 loss to Asheville).
1ST HOMER FOR GIVENS: Mychal Givens connected on his first South Atlantic League home run last night in the third inning. He did not homer in his first 270 South Atlantic League at-bats between 2010, 2011 and early this season. Givens played in seven games for the Shorebirds in 2010 and 57 games in 2011.
5 RBIS in LAST 3: Connor Narron hit a two-run double in the seventh inning that gave the Shorebirds a 7-6 lead last night. He has five RBIs in his last three games played.
FIVE STRONG FOR DAVIES: Zach Davies faced the minimum over 4.2 innings of relief and nearly closed out the win for Delmarva. He allowed just four hits and a run in five strong innings. Davies has allowed just one run over his last eight innings of relief.
7 ONE RUN GAMES: Seven of 15 games this season have been decided by one run. The Shorebirds are 2-5 in one-run games. Seven one run games are the most in the SAL.
6 HBP: Sammie Starr was hit by a pitch for the sixth time last night, most in the SAL.
LINO 10TH IN SAL: Lino's .370 batting average ranks tenth in the South Atlantic League and third amongst Orioles minor leaguers. Ty Kelly (.378, Frederick) and Ron Welty (.375, Frederick) are the only two with higher averages.
