POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost the series opener with the Charleston RiverDogs on Thursday night by a 9-8 final. The Power held a 6-0 lead after three innings thanks in large part to a five-run, three hit, three walk, and three error top of the second. Charleston scored six in the fifth, including four on a grand slam by Angelo Gumbs. With the game tied at seven, the RiverDogs plated a pair in the seventh. West Virginia only managed to get one back in the ninth when Jonathan Schwind was retired on strikes with the tying run at third. JordanCooper took the loss for the Power.

NINE TO A DIME: Alen Hanson's hitting streak reached ten games after a two hit Thursday night. The infielder is batting .442 during his current streak with three home runs and seven runs batted in during that stretch. In 2011, Dan Grovatt and Mel Rojas Jr. each had ten game streaks as a season best by any Power player.

NOT SO GRAND STILL SLAMMED: Power relief pitchers have allowed a grand slam in three straight games. Asheville's Will Swanner his a grand slam in the seven-run, second inning on Monday and David Kadilas knock a slam in Tuesday's Tourists seven-run seventh prior to Angelo Gombs fifth inning shot last night. Over that last three games, the West Virginia bullpen has an ERA of 18.23 (27 earned runs over 13.1 innings pitched).

TRIPLED OFF: West Virginia's Jodaneli Carvajal hit into the South Atlantic League's first triple play of the 2012 season last night in the top of the third. Carvajal lined to the shortstop Cito Culver with the bases loaded. Culver thenstarted the relays around the infield- first to home to third- to get the other two outs.

BUSY WEEK FOR TRAVEL: The Pittsburgh Pirates made three moves Thursday that altered the active West Virginia roster. Porfirio Lopez was promoted back to Bradenton after appearing in Tuesday night's Power game. Josh Poytress was also promoted to High-A after having gone 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA for West Virginia over three games. Eric Avila was transferred to the Extended Spring roster having only played in four of 13 possible games this year. To fill these three openings, Pittsburgh added three pitchers who had previously been on the roster. Stetson Allie was added off the Extended Spring roster while Orlando Castro and Mike Jefferson were promoted from State College.

LEADER AT THE TOP: Alen Hanson is among the South Atlantic League leaders in ten different offensive categories: batting average (4th), games (2nd), home runs (tied for 1st), at bats (tied for 3rd), hits (1st), slugging percentage (2nd), doubles (tied for 1st), extra base hits (1st), runs scored (2nd), and total bases (1st).

PROMO UPDATE- APRIL 27: The Power will host a Charlies Reunion Night on April 27 at Appalachian Power Park. Former Charleston Charlies like Kent Tekulve, Steve Blass, and Dave Parker will be in attendance for the game and will sign autographs. A commemorative Charlies giveaway will also be handed out to the fans in attendance.

POWER POINTS: The Power and Charleston RiverDogs have turned a league-low eight double plays this season... Power bases runners combined to steal a season high five bags on Thursday. Prior to last night, the team had not swiped more than two bases in any game.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh was off and opens a homestand against St. Louis tonight ... Indianapolis was shutout 4-0 by Columbus... Altoona beat Richmond 4-3. Quincy Latimore hit his first home run of the season in the win... Bradenton beat Ft. Myers 2-1 in 10 innings. Dan Grovatt drove in Benji Gonzalez in the top of the tenth for the win.
