Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville Tourists' Tyler Massey and Ben Alsup (3-0, 3.79) had every answer for the Rome Braves attack Friday night at McCormick Field. Massey hit two Home Runs and Alsup worked seven strong innings as they both led the Tourists to a 7-3 victory over the Braves.
The offense picked up right where it let off on Thursday night. Brian Humphries dropped down a bunt single and Harold Riggins was hit by a pitch. Two batters later Massey connected on his first Home Run on the evening; a three-run shot over the left field wall.
Alsup kept the Braves out of the hit column the first time through the line-up, but Tony Mueller reached on a bunt single with two outs in the third. Asheville's righty continued to baffle Braves hitters as he continued to throw scoreless innings.
Massey came calling again in the bottom of the third. With two outs and runners at first and second, Tyler left no doubt as he drilled one well out of the stadium to right-center. Massey's second three-run long ball of the game gave him six RBI's through three innings.
Alsup ran into a little trouble in the fifth. Rome loaded the bases with no outs and had a run scored when Kurt Fleming drew a base on balls. Ben buckled down nicely after that. He allowed just one more run to score while working out of the jam.
Massey nearly left the yard again in the bottom of the fifth, but his long fly ball was caught at the base of the wall. Trevor Story however, did go deep for Asheville in the eighth. His solo shot to center Home Run number four on the season for Story. The Braves did manage to plate on in the top of the ninth, but it was too little too late.
Humphries and Delta Cleary Jr. each finished with two hits and Harold Riggins extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the seventh. Humphries has recorded two hits in each of his last five games played.
Asheville looks to make it eight wins in a row overall on Saturday night as they host the Brave for game three of their four-game set.
