
Suns Hammer Four Homers in 15-2 Thumping of Lakewood

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns' (8-8) bats exploded on a Zambelli Fireworks Friday night at Municipal Stadium, as they overwhelmed the Lakewood Blue Claws (6-10) with 19 hits in a 15-2 blowout victory.
The Suns got to Lakewood starting pitcher Lino Martinez (2-1) in the fourth inning by scoring eight runs on eight straight hits before the Blue Claws could register an out. The nine-run assault was the Suns' highest scoring inning of the season. Third baseman Matthew Skole was a perfect 4-for-4 and drove in four runs with two singles, a double, and a home run. His four RBIs added to his season total of 22 and extended his South Atlantic League lead in that category. Second baseman Cutter Dykstra also registered four hits on the night and finished 4-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI. Catcher Adrian Nieto went 2-for-4 and homered in his second straight game with a three-run blast in the fourth inning.
Suns starting pitcher Wirkin Estevez (2-0) delivered a quality start for the Suns and struck out a career high nine batters without allowing a walk over six innings. Hagerstown relievers Bobby Lucas and Gregory Holt added two strikeouts apiece over the final three innings, as the Suns' staff fanned 13 total Blue Claws in the game.
Martinez gave up 12 runs on 14 hits in 3.1 innings, the most earned runs allowed by a single pitcher in Lakewood Blue Claws history, en route to his first loss of the season. Lakewood reliever Ryan Sasaki conceded three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings to finish the game.
The Suns and Lakewood will lock up in game three of the series at Municipal Stadium on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Brian Dupra (0-3) takes the hill against LHP Ervis Manzanillo (0-1) for Lakewood.
