Pitching Matchup: RHP Dylan Bundy (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Scottie Allen (1-2, 4.68)
STAT OF THE DAY: The Shorebirds are 4-1 in games that Dylan Bundy has pitched this season. The only game they lost was his second start against Kannapolis (2-1). Shorebirds offense has scored just one run in 17 innings that Bundy has pitched.
PREVIEW: With the series tied at one game apiece, the Shorebirds send right-hander Dylan Bundy to the mound for his sixth start of the year. The RiverDogs used a four-run second inning last night to cruise past the Shorebirds, 8-2. Shorebirds starter Miguel Chalas lasted just two innings. The Shorebirds are now seven games behind the Greensboro Grasshoppers, who have won five straight games.
DELMONICO CONTINUES HOT PLAY: Nicky Delmonico takes a six-game hit streak and a 16-game on-base streak into game two against Charleston. During the on-base streak, his batting average has soared from .132 to .263 and his on-base percentage has jumped from .250 to .369. He has reached base 28 times in the last 16 games. His on-base streak is the fifth longest active streak in the SAL. He is batting .351 during the 16-game streak.
JUSTIN DALLES HOMER: Justin Dalles hit his ninth SAL home run and tenth career long ball in the fourth inning yesterday. Dalles hit four home runs in both 2010 and 2011 for the Shorebirds.
LINO'S HITS: Gabriel Lino picked up his first multi-hit game last night since April 19 (10 games).
HOWARD RANKS SECOND: Trent Howard ranks second amongst Orioles farmhands with a 1.93 ERA. Rick Zagone leads O's minor leaguers with a 1.40 ERA.
JESSE BEAL ACTIVATED: Jesse Beal was activated off the Disabled List yesterday. Zach Fowler was transferred to Aberdeen to make room. Beal, 21, did not pitch in 2011 due to injury. In 2010, he was in the Shorebirds rotation. He went 7-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 19 starts. The last time he pitched in a real game was August 3, 2010 against the West Virginia Power.
RISP DURING ROAD TRIP: The Shorebirds have had trouble hitting with runners in scoring position during the current road trip. Last night was no exception as they went 1-for-10 and left 10 runners on base. Through the first five games of the trip, the Shorebirds are 5-of-45 (.111) when hitting with runners in scoring position. The Shorebirds have scored just ten runs during the trip.
