For the second time this season, Lexington Legends' right-hander Nick Tropeano has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. SAL President Eric Krupa announced today (Monday) that Tropeano had earned the honor for the period of April 30-May 6.

Tropeano made one start during the week and pitched seven shutout innings at Asheville May 5. He was the winning pitcher in a 5-1 Legends victory. Tropeano allowed two hits, walked two batters and struck out eight.

Tropeano also won Pitcher of the Week honors for the period of April 16-22.

In 33 and two-thirds innings pitched this season, Tropeano (2-2) has struck out 41 batters, good for third in the league through Sunday's games. His earned run average stands at 1.87, sixth in the league.

"There have only been four Pitcher of the Week awards in 2012, and Nick has won two of them," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "He is having an outstanding season, and we're really happy to see him get this recognition."

Tropeano, 21, was chosen in the fifth round of the 2011 draft by the Houston Astros. He pitched in college at Stony Brook.

Tropeano is scheduled to make his next start Friday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against Hagerstown. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
