
RiverDogs Walk off with 5-4 Win over Shorebirds

Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs scored a run in the seventh inning to tie the game and a run in the ninth inning to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-4 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Monday night. Dylan Bundy continued his stellar start to the season with a career high eight strikeouts over three innings. Bundy allowed one hit.
The RiverDogs scored first in the third inning. With Mason Williams at first, Gabriel Lino overthrew Dylan Bundy and the ball rolled past Sammie Starr into center field. Williams hooked around second and Glynn Davis threw high to third and the ball skipped into the dugout, giving Williams the plate.
In the fourth, the Shorebirds tied the game. Brenden Webb hit a one out double to right field. He moved to third on a groundout by Lino. Then, Charleston first baseman Casey Stevenson misplayed a grounder off the bat of Connor Narron, allowing Webb to score.
Charleston regained the lead in the fifth inning. Angelo Gumbs singled and proceeded to steal second and third. Stevenson singled in Gumbs to give the RiverDogs a 2-1 lead. Gary Sanchez, who had three hits on the night, singled home Stevenson.
The Shorebirds took their first lead of the night in the seventh. Jason Esposito reached on an error and scored a throwing error by shortstop Cito Culver. Later in the inning, Connor Narron hit his third home run of the season over the right field wall to give the Shorebirds a 4-3 lead.
The RiverDogs evened the score in the bottom of the seventh. Williams hit a leadoff single. He stole second and third and scored on a single to right by Gary Sanchez.
In the ninth inning, Francisco Arcia hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field to score pinch runner Ali Castillo give the RiverDogs a 5-4 win. Kelvin De Leon set up the winning run with a double to start the inning.
Jesse Beal made his season debut in the seventh. He allowed one run on three hits in two innings.
Devin Jones replaced Bundy in the fourth inning and went three innings. He gave up five hits and two runs.
Joel De La Cruz earned the win while Jose Nivar was pinned with the loss.
The Shorebirds and RiverDogs play the series finale on Tuesday night at 7:05pm. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
