Asheville Tourists News Release

In a contest where neither the Legends nor the Tourists led by more than one run, Asheville found a way to pull ahead late and hold on to a 4-3 win. Will Swanner belted a solo Home Run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and Jefri Hernandez notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

On paper, the pitching match-up was one of the best on paper for any South Atlantic League game this season. Ben Alsup (4-0, 3.99) faced off against Michael Foltynewicz (4-1, 1.60) and the two starting pitchers did not disappoint. Each received a no-decision and worked deep into the game.

In the bottom of the first, Asheville struck first. Delta Cleary Jr. scored from first on Trevor Story's double off the scoreboard. Lexington answered in the third when Jordan Scott doubled to right center; scoring John Hinson.

The game remained tied until the fifth. Hinson reached base again and stole second. With two outs, Delino Deshields Jr. singled to left and was thrown out trying to take second. The run crossed the plate in time; however, and the Legends led 2-1.

Tyler Massey reached first base in the sixth and Harold Riggins doubled him over to third. The relay throw from the outfield went awry and Massey sprinted home to tie the game.

The two teams exchanged runs in the seventh, both on miscues. Rosell Herrera deflected a grounder away from Story with two outs in the top of the inning; allowing Hinson to score from second. Jared Simon reached third in the bottom half of the frame and raced home on a passed ball.

With the game tied 3-3, Will Swanner delivered the long ball in the eighth and Asheville held on for the 4-3 victory. The Legends committed three errors in the game, but their defense was phenomenal early on. Asheville's defense was excellent as well and the two teams combined to turn five double plays.

Legends outfielder Drew Murin was ejected in the sixth inning after he slammed his helmet into the ground on a close call that went the Tourists way at first base.
