KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Hickory Crawdads struck for a run in the top of the ninth, but the Kannapolis Intimidators hung on for the 5-4 win before 628 fans at CMC-Northeast Stadium on Monday night.

The Crawdads (18-12) got off to a powerful start against RHP Kevin Vance (W, 2-0) and the Intimidators (13-17). Leading off the top of the second, 3B Drew Robinson hammered a solo home run inside the right-field foul pole, putting the 'Dads in the 1-0 lead.

Hickory doubled the early lead in the top of the fourth frame. With two away and the bases clear, RF Zach Cone ripped a double to left field and was followed by a walk from C Kellin Deglan, putting two on. LF Jeremy Williams grounded an RBI single through the left side of the infield, plating Cone from second to make it 2-0.

LHP Will Lamb (L, 0-3) kept the Intimidators off the board through the first three innings, but the Intimidators rallied in front in the bottom of the fourth. 1B Leighton Pangilinan started the inning by being hit by a pitch, before RF Mark Haddow doubled him to third base. After a CF Keenyn Walker walk loaded the bases, C Martin Medina drove a two-run single to right-center, tying the game at 2-2. Lamb retired the next two batters, but LF Ross Wilson struck with a two-out, two-run single to tilt the lead to the Intimidators, 4-2. RHP Arlett Mavare took over on the mound and quickly ended the inning with a strikeout.

The Crawdads cut the deficit in half in the top of the seventh against LHP Matthew Lane. Williams struck again to lead off the frame, skying a solo home run over the left-center field wall to bring the 'Dads within one run of tying it, 4-3.

Kannapolis, though, stretched the lead back to multiple runs in the bottom of the eighth. Pangilinan led off with a double, before racing home on an RBI double by RF Mark Haddow, making it 5-3.

The 'Dads refused to go down quietly in the top of the ninth. Deglan started the inning with a lead-off walk and raced to third on a single by Williams, which led to RHP Terance Marin (S, 3) taking over on the mound. OF Chris Grayson was inserted as a pinch hitter and drove an RBI sacrifice fly to center, scoring Deglan to make it 5-4. However, Marin induced a fielder's choice and a ground out against the next two batters, as Kannapolis hung on for the 5-4 win.
