Lexington Legends News Release
Will Swanner's home run in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie, and the Asheville Tourists went on to a 4-3 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night in Asheville.
The Tourists took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff walk to Delta Cleary and a double by Trevor Story.
The Legends evened the score in the top of the third on a leadoff double by Asheville native John Hinson and a two-out double by Jordan Scott.
Lexington moved in front with a run in the fifth. Hinson singled with one out, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Delino DeShields Jr. The Tourists answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Harold Riggins to tie the score at 2-2.
Each team scored a run in the seventh. Brandon Meredith led off the top of the inning with a single. He was forced out at second on Hinson's grounder to shortstop, but Hinson stole second and came around to score on another two-out hit by DeShields. In the home half of the seventh, Jared Simon led off with an infield single and advanced to second when Jimmy Howick's throw went wide of first for an error. Simon moved to third on a sacrifice Rosell Herrera, and scored on a passed ball charged to catcher Mike Kvasnicka.
Swanner's tie-breaking homer came with one out in the eighth off Legends' reliever Dayan Diaz.
Kenneth Roberts (2-1) who entered the game in the seventh inning, got the win. Diaz (4-2) took the loss.
The Tourists have won two out of three in the series, which concludes Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
