Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 7, 2012) -- Kannapolis scored four runs in the fourth inning, and Terance Marin retired three batters with the tying run on base in the ninth inning as the Intimidators defeated the Hickory Crawdads, 5-4, on Monday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Marin entered the game with runners on the corners and no outs with Kannapolis up 5-3 in the ninth inning. He gave up a sacrifice fly to Chris Grayson but induced ground balls from Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor to end the game for the save (3).
The Intimidators leapfrogged the Crawdads in the bottom of the fourth inning as the first four batters all reached base safely against Hickory starter Will Lamb. Lamb plunked Leighton Pangilinan, gave up a double to Mark Haddow and walked Keenyn Walker to load the bases. Martin Medina tied the game with a two-run single, and Ross Wilson singled home Walker and Medina for a 4-2 lead to chase Lamb from the game.
Hickory's Jeremy Williams homered to straight away centerfield on the first pitch of the seventh inning to pull the Crawdads within a run. Kannapolis responded in the eighth when Pangilinan led off the inning with a double, and Haddow traded places with him on a double of his own to extend the Intimidators lead to 5-3.
Kevin Vance (2-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings. Matt Lane and Bryan Blough combined to give up two runs over three innings of relief with five strikeouts and a walk.
Drew Robinson led off the second inning with a solo home run (3) to put Hickory ahead, 1-0. In the fourth inning, Zach Cone doubled down the left field line with two outs, and Jeremy Williams singled to cash Cone for a 2-0 lead.
The Intimidators conclude this four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads on Tuesday as Kannapolis right-hander Myles Jaye (1-0, 1.80) faces Hickory's right-hander Luke Jackson (2-2, 4.60). The Budweiser Clydesdales will make an appearance at the ballpark tomorrow from 4-7 p.m. with a show in the stadium parking lot leading up to the game. First pitch at CMC-NorthEast Stadium is at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com .
