STAT OF THE NIGHT: The Shorebirds have won the series opener in four of their last five series. However, the Shorebirds have lost the series finale in six of their last seven series. The Shorebirds have not won a series in their last seven series.
PREVIEW: Following a rain out on Sunday, the Shorebirds open an eight-game road swing with game one against Lakewood. The rain out will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, with the first game scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The Shorebirds are 12 games back of first place Kannapolis with just 22 games remaining in the season. The Shorebirds have lost seven of their last eight games and nine of their last 11. The Shorebirds managed just three total runs on ten total hits in the final three games of the Hagerstown series.
2011 DRAFTEES ARRIVE: The Shorebirds now have three 2011 draftees; Mike Wright (3rd round), Kyle Simon (fourth round) and John Ruettiger (eighth round). Wright and Simon were added to the roster on August 13 while Ruettiger was added on Sunday. Simon tossed two innings on Saturday for the Shorebirds and allowed two hits and one run in two innings.
OFFENSE: The Shorebirds are batting just .187 in their last ten games and .172 in their last five games. The Shorebirds were one-hit by three Hagerstown pitchers (A.J. Cole, Wilson Eusebio, Dean Weaver) on Saturday. The 'Birds are averaging 2.7 runs per game in their last ten games.
SEVEN-INNING GEM FOR MARTIN: Jarret Martin retired the final 15 batters of his outing on Saturday and held Hagerstown to just three hits over seven dominating innings.
17 GAME ON-BASE: Michael Ohlman has reached base in a career high 17 straight games dating back to July 22. He has 17 hits and ten walks during the stretch.
NOEL'S SUCCESS: Luis Noel has won a staff high seven games this season and 21 in his career with the Shorebirds, most in franchise history. Noel is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in six relief appearances. He had a 5.75 ERA in 18 starts. Noel has not allowed an earned run in 10.1 consecutive innings over his last five outings.
