Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greensboro, NC - On the day he was named the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week for his complete game shutout against the Lexington Legends on Wednesday, Taylor Rogers provided another solid start for the Augusta GreenJackets. Rogers fired six strong innings for the GreenJackets in a 3-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Monday night.

The GreenJackets got on the board early to support Rogers after Greensboro starter Rett Varner retired the first seven hitters of the game. Jeff Arnold singled and scored on Carlos Willoughby's RBI single in the first to go ahead 1-0. Devin Harris led off the fifth with his third home run in as many games and 13th of the season - a blast just to the left of dead-center - to give the GreenJackets a 2-0 edge.

Off a tiring Rogers in the sixth inning, the Grasshoppers struck back for the first time. Greensboro got a run on back-to-back doubles by Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich to cut Augusta's lead to 2-1. The GreenJackets got a lucky break in the seventh though to take a 3-1 lead on what would stand as the eventual deciding run. With Willoughby at the plate and two outs, a passed ball on strike three allowed Willoughby to reach first and Harris to score from third as Augusta grew their lead to two.

Greensboro threatened in the bottom of the seventh, putting two runners on before Jose Valdez got out of the jam successfully. Ozuna greeted Seth Rosin in the eighth with a solo homer to right to cut the GreenJackets' lead to 3-2. Rosin retired the next three he faced in the eighth, turning things over to Brett Bochy in the ninth inning. Bochy struck out the side in order for his fifth save of the season.

Rogers (9-9) won for the third time in his last four decisions and for the second start in a row, allowing a run on four hits and two walks while striking out a pair. Varner (6-7) took the loss for Greensboro, allowing three runs - two earned - on four hits and two walks while striking out one.

Augusta is now 4-1 on the current seven-game road trip, earning wins in all four games in which they scored the first run while losing the only game where the opponent was the first to score.

The GreenJackets send Mike Kickham (4-7, 4.58) to the mound in search of their second straight win to face Kyle Winters (7-3, 4.50) on Wednesday night in the third game of the series. First pitch from Greensboro comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
