LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (24-25) fell 2-1 to the Delmarva Shorebirds (18-31) on Monday in the opener of their 4 game series. The game was tied 1-1 in the 8th inning when Delmarva scored a run on a Sac Fly to LF by John Ruettiger. Lakewood has now lost 5 straight games, and fall under .500 with 21 games left in the 2nd half.

Garett Claypool gave Lakewood another great start allowing just 1 unearned run on 3 hits in 7 innings. He struck out 6 to push his total to 137 on the year, most in the SAL. Claypool now has 8 starts this year where he has allowed 1 or no runs, and not gotten the win. Lendy Castillo gave up the winning run in the 8th to pick up the loss and fall to 4-2.

Lakewood out hit Delmarva 6-4, and it is the 3rd straight game where the BlueClaws out hit their opponent and lost. Jeff Lanning was 2-4 with 2 doubles and scored the only run of the game for the BlueClaws. Maikel Franco drove him in with a double in the 5th inning.

Tuesday the BlueClaws and Shorebirds will play 2 separate 7 inning ball games. Lakewood will start RHP Lisalberto Bonilla (2-4, 3.06 ERA) in game 1 and LHP Mario Hollands (6-6, 4.20 ERA) in game 2. Delmarva has RHP Jake Cowan (0-0, 3.09 ERA) for game 1 and LHP Matt Bywater (02, 4.50 ERA) for game 2. First pitch for game is scheduled for 6:05 pm on Tuesday, and game 2 will begin 30 minutes after the completion of game 1.
