Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 15, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators overcame a four-run deficit and used a pair of two-out RBI-singles in the bottom of the ninth in a 5-4 walk off win over the West Virginia Power on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Down 4-3 with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth, Keenyn Walker laced a ball to the gap in right-center field to tie the game and took second base on the throw to the plate. Carlos Sanchez followed with the game winning hit off Rinku Singh up the middle to cash Walker, giving the Intimidators their eight walk off win this season and third against the Power.

Justin Collop (1-0) worked 2 and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win striking out three batters in the process. Singh (2-1) took the loss for the Power.

West Virginia struck first with four runs in the fourth inning, their only runs of the game. Daniel Grovatt reached base on an error by catcher Miguel Gonzalez, and two batters later Justin Howard put the Power on the board first with an RBI-double. Elias Diaz followed with a two-run double and eventually scored on a Rogelio Noris sacrifice fly.

The Intimidators got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. After Power starter Porfirio Lopez struck out the first batters of the inning, Rangel Ravelo and Miguel Gonzalez laced back-to-back singles. Lopez walked Collin Kuhn to load the bases and end his own night. Reliever Orlando Castro took over and walked Keenyn Walker with the bases loaded to put the Intimidators on the board. Castro then plunked Carlos Sanchez to plate another Intimidators run.

Trayce Thompson blasted his team-leading 21st home run off Castro in the bottom of the sixth, pulling the Intimidators within a run, 4-3.

West Virginia threatened to extender their lead in the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out. Spencer Arroyo retired Justin Howard, and Collop got Elias Diaz to pop out and end the inning. Arroyo did not take a decision in his team-leading 13th quality start of the year, going 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one intentional walk.

The Intimidators threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh after a leadoff double by Gonzalez, but with runners on the corners and one out, Sanchez hit into an inning-ending double play. Ross Wilson lined into an inning-ending double play in the eighth inning.

The Intimidators continue the four-game series against West Virginia on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as Kannapolis hosts its first Social Media Night. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
