Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md.- The pitching dominated, the offense exploded, and the Shorebirds won their most lopsided contest of the season 14-0 over the Greenville Drive. A pair of five run innings carried Delmarva to their highest scoring day of the summer, and the arms of Robert Neigebauer, Aubrey Miller, and Brett Bordes combined for the third shutout of the season for the Shorebirds.
Matt Angle and Pedro Florimon led the attack with three hits apiece. Florimon drove in three runs, while Angle, Matt Tucker, Anthony Martinez, and Joe Mahoney each totaled 3 RBI on the evening. The Shorebirds did not hit a home run in the entire series against Greenville, however the Birds took three out of four behind their spectacular pitching staff.
Robert Neigebauer tossed the first five innings of scoreless ball and picked up his second win of the season. The Drive loaded the bases in the second and the third but stranded them full both times. When Aubrey Miller took over in the sixth, the domination continued. The only batter to reach during Miller's three innings occurred on a hit by pitch with two down in the seventh. The Drive gathered a one-out single in the ninth off Brett Bordes, but a ground ball double play ended the rout and gave the Shorebirds their sixth win in their last eight games.
In the four game series, the Drive, who entered the series with the top batting average in the lead, scored a total of six runs. The Shorebirds had also scored six runs throughout the first three games, but broke out offensively in the finale to record the easy win.
The Shorebirds hope to continue their winning ways against the Augusta GreenJackets. The Birds and Jackets open up a four game series on Friday night at 7:05 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
