Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds (49-41, 11-10) used 11 hits, plating nine runs over the course of the first three innings as they defeated the Drive (48-43, 8-13) 14-0 in the series finale at Perdue Stadium.
Jose Capellan's rough outing began in the bottom of the first as he surrendered a pair of runs, coming on an RBI-single by Anthony Martinez and a run-scoring groundout by Joseph Mahoney. The southpaw wouldn't last another full inning as the Shorebirds scored five times in the second.
The first five batters all reached base as Delmarva sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning. Pedro Florimon, Jr. highlighted the Shorebirds run-producing, doubling home a pair, while Matt Angle, Martinez, and Mahoney each knocked in a run before Capellan was relieved by Ryne Miller.
Matthew Tucker extended the Shorebirds lead to 9-0 in the third, knocking in two with a double.
After being held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, Delmarva's offense was at it again in the sixth, scoring five more runs while only collecting two hits. Newcomer Michael Rozier struggled with control issues as he walked two, hit a batter with the bases loaded, and threw two wild pitches - one of which allowed a run to score - in only a third of an inning.
Entering the game ranked as the South Atlantic League's best hitting team, the Drive were held in check by the trio of Rob Neigebauer (2-0), Aubrey Miller, and Brett Bordes, mustering just four hits in the shutout.
Finishing 1-for-4 in the ballgame, outfielder Ryan Kalish extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Drive now head to Lakewood, New Jersey for a four-game set with the BlueClaws, affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Greenville will send right-hander Terumasa Matsuo to the hill as Lakewood counters with right-hander Vance Worley in the series opener. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM at FirstEnergy Park.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on Wednesday, July 16th when the began an eight-game homestand with the Lake County Captains, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
