Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Seven late innings runs doomed the Hagerstown Suns (10-11) as the Asheville Tourists (13-8) rallied and beat the Suns 9-8, in 10 innings on Thursday Night.

The Suns led most of the game and started with three runs in the first. Michael Burgess smashed a three run homer to right field, his 18th on the year.

Suns starter Erik Arnesen pitched six solid innings and only allowed two runs on four hits.

Suns batters shelled Tourists' starter Sheng-An Kuo for seven runs on seven hits.

Jake Rogers added to the Suns lead as he crushed a homerun to right center field in the second inning.

Two more runs came off of Kuo in the fifth and a RBI single by Rogers in the sixth gave the Suns a 7-2 lead.

For the second straight night, the Suns bullpen could not hold the lead. Asheville's bats came alive in the eighth as they scored four runs in the inning.

David Christensen's two RBI double off Suns reliever Ryan Harrison brought the Tourists within two of the Suns.

The nightmare continued for the Suns as Edulin Abreu served up the tying run to Helder Velazquez to score Michael Mitchell.

Two batters later, Brian Rike singled with the go ahead run. It was Abreu's third blown save of the season.

Jose Lozada brought the game to extra innings with a two out line drive home run to right center field off of Asheville closer Randall Taylor (3-1).

In the top of the tenth, Dan Leatherman (1-1) gave up a lead-off double to Jeff Cunningham. The first baseman moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and came home to score on a dribbler that found center field with the infield drawn in.

The Suns rally came up short in the bottom half of the tenth. After two walks, Sean Rooney's sacrifice bunt went awry. Stephen King was forced out at third, and the next two Suns batters Garrett Bass and Rogers were retired.

Craig Baker picked up the fifth save of the year, while Randall Taylor picked up the win.
