Jackets Drop Series to Lakewood

Lakewood, NJ - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 14-7) lost their third straight game to the Lakewood BlueClaws (38-32, 13-8) on Thursday night 3-2 dropping the four game series. Madison Bumgarner suffered his first loss since April 18 and Andrew Davis drove in both runs for Augusta.

Lakewood got a big insurance run in the sixth inning when Dennis Winn connected for a two-out RBI single scoring Tim Kennelly for a 3-1 BlueClaws lead.

Augusta got one run in the ninth getting three consecutive two-out hits to pull within 3-2. Davis' RBI single scored Angel Villalona to make it 3-2 and move the tying run to third base. BlueClaws closer Jared Simon struck out Nestor Rojas to end the game.

Bumgarner (8-3) worked seven innings and allowed three runs on a season high nine hits while walking one and striking out two.

Lakewood starter Chance Chapman (6-5) came within one out of a complete nine inning game and allowed two runs on seven hits for the win.

The BlueClaws took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI single from Kennelly.

Augusta tied the game in the fourth inning when Davis drove in his first run of the game with a one-out RBI single.

Lakewood took the lead back in the fifth inning on an RBI single from T.J. Warren.

The GreenJackets travel to Salisbury, MD to begin a four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds Friday night. Augusta will send left-hander Craig Clark (6-2, 4.30) to the mound. Delmarva counters with lefty Zach Britton (7-5, 3.17). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
