Shorebirds Cruise Past Drive in Finale, 9-3

Greenville, S.C. - Ty Kelly powered the Shorebirds to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play with a three-run homer and the Shorebirds never looked back en route to a 9-3 win in the finale at Fluor Field. Kelly recorded a career high five RBIs in the win. T.J. Baxter also had a huge day at the plate, going 4-6 with two doubles.

The Delmarva Shorebirds scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning. Greenville starter Ramon Mendez walked Ty Kelly, gave up a single to Levi Carolus and hit Tyler Kolodny to load the bases. Then, he walked Brian Conley to force home Kelly.

In the second, Mike Mooney walked and T.J. Baxter doubled to set the table for Ty Kelly, who blasted a three run homer over the left center field wall to give the ‘Birds a 4-0 lead.

Starter Jesse Beal earned the win in five stellar innings. He shutout the Drive and allowed just five hits. Beal also struck out four and did not issue a walk.

The Shorebirds plated two more runs in the fifth, one in the seventh and two in the ninth.

Ryan Palsha and Bobby Bundy combined to hold the Drive in check through the final four innings. Bundy did not allow a hit in the final two innings.

The Shorebirds will depart for Greensboro to take on the Grasshoppers on Monday at 7:05 p.m.
