Savannah, GA - The West Virginia Power (1-3) blasted three home runs to beat the Savannah Sand Gnats (3-1) by a score of 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium.
The Power did all of their scoring with the long ball. In the first inning, before Gnats starter Collin McHugh could retire a batter, CF Evan Chambers drilled a three-run homerun to left. Jesus Brito added a solo shot in the fifth and Kyle Morgan added a two run jack to right in the eighth inning for West Virginia.
The Gnats scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning, when Juan Lagares drove a single up the middle to bring home Pedro Zapata. Lagares and shortstop Wilmer Flores are the only two Gnats to hit safely in all four games of the 2010 season. Flores singled to center in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Leading off the top of the eighth inning, Chambers lined a ball up the middle that Gnats reliever Johan Figeureo deflected with his bare hand. Figeureo stayed in the game for four more batters, but then left the mound escorted by Gnats trainer Brad Hutson.
The Gnats begin a four-game series with Augusta on Monay at 7:05 with RHP Taylor Whitenton for the Gnats taking on RHP Kyle Vazquez for the Green Jackets, the San Francisco Giants' SAL affiliate.
