Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greensboro, NC - BJ Salsbury and Chris Gloor fell just two outs shy of achieving baseball immortality at NewBridge Bank Park on Saturday night in the Augusta GreenJackets' 8-2 win over the Grasshoppers.

Salsbury fired six scoreless innings of no-hit ball with a walk and four strikeouts before departing due to early season pitch limits. Gloor came on and struck out six of the first seven hitters he faced before yielding the first hit of the game - a single under the outstretched glove of a diving Luke Anders at first base.

The Jackets led from the very first pitch as Evan Crawford deposited Erick Carrillo's first offering of the night over the left field fence for a solo home run. Augusta scored four more times in the opening frame, all with two outs, on an Anders RBI single, a two-run Dan Cook double and a Carrillo wild pitch to score Cook.

Nick Liles added a run in the fourth with a double and Anders drove in his second run of the night in the fifth with a groundout. Chris Dominguez led Augusta's 11-hit attack with his own three-hit night.

Gloor eventually gave up a pair of two-out runs in the ninth for the lone ‘Hoppers tally of the night on a double to center by Rand Smith. Jose Casilla came on to get the final out for the GreenJackets.

Salsbury (1-0) becomes the first GreenJackets starter to earn a victory this season while Carrillo (0-1) struggled through five rocky innings to take the loss.

The GreenJackets go for the series sweep tomorrow with Zach Wheeler on the mound in his professional debut. Wheeler is the Giants' 1st round draft pick from the 2009 draft. He'll face lefty Edgar Olmos in the series finale on Sunday. First pitch will come at 4:05 with the pregame action beginning at 3:50 on WRDW-AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.

Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
