The Hagerstown Suns fought into extra innings but fell to the Hickory Crawdads 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Hickory scored in the first inning. After a Cody Podraza double, two successive ground outs off Suns starter Jack McGeary, the second off Matt West, scored him.

The Suns responded in the bottom half of the first. After Francisco Soriano hit a single, third baseman Steven Souza hit a single to right. As Soriano tried for third, right fielder Miguel Velazquez made a throwing error, scoring Soriano and putting Souza to third. The next batter, Justin Bloxom, grounded out to first to score Souza for a 2-1 Hagerstown lead.

The Crawdads tied the game in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right from Garcia, scoring Zach Zaneski from third.

The Suns tried to win in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two out. Eury Perez hit a ball to left center that was stopped by a diving catch by Cristian Santana, sending the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Garcia hit a two-run triple to center off Shane Erb (0-1), scoring Zaneski and Podraza. The next batter, West hit a double to center to score Garcia for the 5-2 lead and eventual win.

McGeary got a no decision with five innings pitched, allowing two runs and striking out five. Paul Applebee came in relief and pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts.
