Shore, Lagace Lead Stars to 5-2 Win in Rockford
October 17, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill - Devin Shore continued his red-hot play with a hat trick and Maxime Lagace recorded the first goaltending win of his AHL career as the Texas Stars topped the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center in front of 4,860 in attendance.
The win snapped an 11-game skid for the Stars (3-0-0-0) against Rockford (1-2-0-0). Derek Hulak also scored for Texas and added an assist. Lagace stopped 25 of 27 shots in net in the win, and Shore now has six goals in his first three games of the season.
The Stars close out their three-game road weekend tomorrow at 4 p.m. in a rematch against the IceHogs.
Rockford jumped out to the 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a power play goal by Mark McNeill, but after that is when Shore and the Stars took over. The rookie forward's first goal came on a shorthanded drive to the net off a loose puck at center ice at 10:57. Less than a minute later, Shore picked up a loose puck from Hulak's tie-up on the faceoff and slipped in his second past Michael Leighton to make it a 2-1 lead for Texas.
Hulak's first of the year came at 15:37 of the second from the slot off a centering feed from Matej Stransky to give the Stars a two-goal lead.
Shore returned the scoresheet at 7:26 of the third as Remi Elie's second assist of the night from the left circle setup the rookie for the one-timer from the slot and his first career hat trick. Rockford added another from Tanner Kero at 11:15 of the third to make it 4-2, but Brendan Ranford buried an empty-net goal late for his fourth of the season and the Stars win.
A night after scoring three power play goals, the Stars were held scoreless in seven man-advantage chances. Rockford went 1-for-5 on the power play.
Leighton finished 30 of 34 in the Rockford loss.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
