Monsters Fall to Wild in Shootout, 1-0
October 17, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters, proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated in a shootout by the Iowa Wild on Saturday at The Q by a final score of 1-0. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 1-1-0-1 overall this season and with three points, remain tied for second place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
Throughout a tense, tight-checking battle, the Monsters and Wild failed to register a goal either way through regulation, and a three-on-three overtime period, thanks to superb goaltending from Lake Erie's Joonas Korpisalo, who made 20 saves on Saturday, and Iowa's Leland Irving, the author of a memorable 37-save performance.
In the Monsters' first shootout of the season, goals from Sonny Milano and Oliver Bjorkstrand kept Lake Erie alive in the third and fourth rounds after Iowa received a second-round tally from Michael Keranen and a fourth-round conversion from Christoph Bertschy. Pushed to six rounds, Saturday's shootout finally concluded when Lake Erie's Alex Broadhurst failed to convert in the wake of a Brady Brassart score.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Thursday road tilt vs. the Manitoba Moose at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba with full coverage underway at 8:00 pm EST on AM 1420 The Answer.
Full season and partial season ticket plans start at just $10 per seat and are on sale now. Group ticket and birthday bash packages for 10 or more are also on sale now, as are single game tickets.
