Albany Devils Earn First Point in OT Loss
October 17, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
TORONTO -- The Toronto Marlies tied the game with 1:47 remaining and then scored the game-winning goal with 1:22 left in overtime, defeating the Albany Devils, 3-2, Saturday at Ricoh Coliseum. Byron Froese was responsible for the tying tally and T.J. Brennan potted the winner.
Devils' netminder Yann Danis was solid for the second consecutive game. He made 34 saves, including 18 during the third period and overtime. Marlies' goaltender Antoine Bibeau earned his second win of the season with 19 stops.
The Devils controlled the scoreboard for the majority of the game. Corey Tropp, who was reassigned by the Chicago Blackhawks to Albany on Oct. 8, scored his first goal as a Devil. The play started when Brandon Burlon moved the puck to Dan Kelly along the blueline. Kelly ripped a shot and Tropp, who was being held behind Toronto netminder Antoine Bibeau, deflected the puck at 7:48 of the first.
The Marlies responded at the end of the period after the Devils got caught scrambling in their own end. Justin Holl sent the puck through the crease and William Nylander was there for the tap in.
In the second period, the Devils took advantage of one of their five man advantages of the contest. Matt Lorito, who missed last Saturday's opener with an upper-body injury, made a cross-ice pass to Sislo who buried a one-timer at 1:55.
The Devils appeared to be heading to their first win of the season, but Froese deflected a turnaround shot near the goal line off a Devils defender and behind Danis late in the third. In the three-on-three overtime period Brennan sent a wrister into the upper-third from the high slot.
The two teams are back at it Sunday with a 3 pm rematch at Ricoh Coliseum. Fans can follow the action at ahllive.com.
