Charlotte N.C. - The Checkers found their way into a shootout in back to back games against the Everblades and the results were the same the second time around as they fell to Florida by a score of 3-2.

The Checkers started the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period. Charlotte defenseman Julien Brouillette sent a flying Matt Schepke into the Florida zone with a nice pass. Shepke deeked Florida goalie David Leggio and slid the puck into the net at 3:16. It only took 55 seconds after the Checkers goal for Florida to tie the contest when Milan Gijac won the faceoff in the Checkers zone and sent the puck to Andrew Sweetland who wristed the shot over the glove of goalie Jeff Jakaitis at 4:11. The game was locked 1-1 after the first twenty minutes of action.

Neither team was able to tally a goal in the second but the Everblades retrieved a one-goal lead during the third period. Kevin Baker continued his torrid scoring pace and tallied power-play on a one-timer that flew over the blocker side of Jakaitis at 4:29. Just as the Everblades did in the first period, the Checkers roared back to tie the contest on the next shift. Charlotte forward Brad Ralph stood at the lip of the crease deflecting a Chris Capraro wrist shot past Leggio only 12 seconds later. Regulation ended with both teams locked at 2-2.

Neither team could find a goal in the overtime despite the Checkers having a two-man advantage opportunity for the last minute of play. During the shootout, the Everblades received goals from Mark Lee and Kevin Baker while the Checkers only got a goal from Hiller. The game ended with the Everblades winning by a 3-2 score.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on March 26 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7 P.M. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
