Florida Everblades News Release


ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades finished off a busy week by collecting a point in all four games this past week going 3-0-1. The points ended up guaranteeing the Everblades home-ice advantage through the Conference Finals. Overall the Everblades still enter this week with the league's best record at 44-17-5 (93 pts., 1st South Division).

THIS WEEK (All Times Eastern)

Saturday, March 28 vs. Charlotte Checkers Games: 7:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The Everblades have their lightest week of the season when they play just one game on Saturday night vs. Charlotte. The game is the 17th and final game between the South Divisions rivals this season. The Everblades have won the last three games between the teams and overall are 8-6-2 vs. Charlotte. The Everblades won the last meeting 3-2 in a shootout on March 22 at Charlotte. The Checkers enter this week with an overall record of 32-25-8 (72 pts., 3rd, South Division).

Tuesday, March 17 vs. Charlotte Checkers 3-2 Shootout Loss

The Everblades dropped a shootout decision to the Checkers on Tuesday night at Germain Arena. Andrew Sweetland gave the Everblades a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but Charlotte tied the game shortly after before taking a 2-1 lead late in the first period. The Everblades remained down 2-1 until the final two minutes of regulation when Kevin Baker scored his 50th goal of the season to tie the score. In the shootout the Checkers outscored the Everblades 3-2 in six rounds. In goal David Leggio got credit for a tie after stopping 24 of 26 shots in regulation and overtime. Florida's Special Teams: PP: 1-of-6; PK: 8-of-10

Wednesday, March 18 vs. Charlotte Checkers 5-3 Win

The Everblades bounced back with a 5-3 win over the Checkers on Wednesday night. The Checkers opened the scoring in the first period then the teams traded goals back and forth until the Everblades took charge with three third period tallies. Kevin Baker notched the first two goals for the Everblades then Andrew Sweetland, Colin Nicholson and Mathieu Roy erased a 3-2 Charlotte lead with third period goals. In goal Kyle Gajewski picked up the win by stopping 20 of 23 shots Florida Special Teams: PP: 4-of-9; PK: 7-of-8.

Friday, March 20 at Charlotte Checkers 4-3 Shootout Win

The Everblades squeaked out a 4-3 shootout win on Friday night at Charlotte. Neither team scored during the first periods then combined for six third period goals. Mathieu Roy, Ernie Hartlieb and Milan Gajic scored power play goals for the Everblades, but Charlotte tied the game with 26 seconds remaining in regulation with the goaltender pulled. After neither team scored in overtime, the Everblades out-scored the Checkers 3-1 in the shootout getting goals from Gajic, Andrew Sweetland and Kevin Baker. In goal Kyle Gajewski was notched his second straight win stopping 38 of 41 shots to improve to 3-0-0 as an Everblade. Florida Special Teams: PP: 3-of-5; PK: 2-of-3.

Sunday, March 22 at Charlotte Checkers 3-2 Shootout Win

The Everblades picked up their third straight win over the Checkers by upending them in a shootout for the second straight game. Andrew Sweetland scored a first period goal, and Kevin Baker tallied a third period power play goal that gave the Everblades a 2-1 lead, but Charlotte scored 22 seconds after Baker's goal to tie the score. After neither team scored in the overtime period that included the Checkers holding a 5-on-3 power play. In the shootout the Everblades picked up goals by Mark Lee and Kevin Baker in the fourth and fifth rounds. In goal David Leggio scored the win by stopping 20 of 22 shots. Florida Special Teams: PP: 1-of-4; PK: 4-of-5.
