Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs couldn't muster a third consecutive comeback against the Jackals on Sunday afternoon as they took a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Elmira Jackals.
Elmira took a 2-0 lead after one period of play. The Jackals first strike came off of an unassisted fluke goal as Mike Knight was handling the puck at the side of the net and was checked; causing the puck jump off his stick and under the pad of netminder Ian Keserich. The deficit was then extended at 17:24 with Chaz Johnson's slap shot power play goal. The Chiefs got several good looks on net but all threats were turned aside by Mitch O'Keefe as they head to the locker room to regroup.
Johnstown and Elmira exchanged second period goals which left the Chiefs in a two-goal hole. At 3:13 Elmira made the score 3-0 with a tip in goal by Brendan Connolly. That goal was answered at 14:16 by Joe Federoff's chip shot over a falling Michael Teslak. The goal was Federoff's first pro goal as he made his Chiefs debut on Sunday. Greg Gallagher and Andrew Sarauer added an assist to aid in putting the Chiefs on the board.
The Chiefs had several great looks at cutting the Jackals' lead in the third period, but could not find the back of the net as Teslak held the crease strongly. With time expiring, Keserich came out of the net for the extra attacker but Elmira stole the puck and sealed the victory with an open net goal by Pierre-Luc Faubert.
Keserich sustained the loss with 27 saves on 30 shots while Johnstown's power play went 0-for-6.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Saturday, March 28th when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:05 p.m. ET. The Chiefs will be hosting Fan Appreciation Night as numerous prizes will be given away and everyone in attendance has the chance to go home with something great. Good seats are available, but going quickly! Act fast and be sure to get your seat by calling 814-539-1799 or 814-536-5156.
