Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, fell to the Phoenix Roadrunners, Saturday evening, in front of a sellout crowd of 9,644, on home ice at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

After a scoreless first period, with the Reign (35-27-3-2) outshooting the Roadrunners (28-32-2-3) 13 to 5, Ontario found the back of the net with two back-to-back goals in the second. The first was netted at 2:44 by rightwing Bud Holloway as he took advantage of the power play and pushed the puck past Phoenix goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu. Center Jon Francisco and defenseman Shawn Germain were rewarded with the assists after their quick combination play in front of the Phoenix net. Just over a minute later, Ontario struck another as rightwing Geoff Walker and center Tim Kraus found the stick of rightwing Mike Howe. Howe lit the lamp, putting the Reign ahead by two.

As the period came to an end, with what seemed to be an Ontario lead of two goals, the Roadrunners struck a shot from the right circle with just 14 seconds remaining. Phoenix defenseman Jim Jorgensen hit the puck past Ontario goalkeeper Linden Rowat. The clubs were sent into the third and final period with a score of 2-1.

The Roadrunners claimed the lead with two back-to-back goals just past five minutes into the third. Phoenix center Don Sisca hit the puck from the left circle, which was redirected off of an Ontario player, past the pads of Rowat. Leftwing John McNabb registered the assist on the play, tying the match at two a-piece. Twenty-eight seconds later, Phoenix rightwing Michael Cohen struck a top-shelf shot putting the Roadrunners ahead by one, 3-1. With just over four minutes left to play in the match, Phoenix struck a short-handed, insurance goal from defenseman Jeremy Swanson. Ontario was unable to answer back, with Phoenix taking the match with a final score of, Ontario 2, Phoenix 4.
