
Shepherd, Bandits Put Beatdown on Kings

Clinton, IA - Quad Cities right-fielder Devin Shepherd went 4-for-5 with a third-inning home run and five RBI to power the River Bandits to a 16-6 win over the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field Thursday night.
Already with a 3-1 lead, the Bandits scored six times against right-hander Tyler Blandford in the third inning including twice on Shepherd's deep fly over the left-field fence.
Blandford (L, 0-1) was roughed up for eight runs, five earned on six hits over 2.0 innings. Niko Vasquez also homered off the right-hander as part of a 10-1 lead.
Dennis Raben homered to right-center in the fourth inning to make it a 10-2 game, but the Bandits scored four more runs in the fifth off right-hander John Housey to open up a 14-2 lead. Housey surrendered an additional six runs, four earned over 2.1 innings.
The LumberKings scored three times in the seventh, getting an RBI double from Shaver Hansen, an RBI single from Daniel Carroll and a sacrifice fly from Vinnie Catricala, but still trailed 15-5. Mario Martinez added one last run on an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to plate James Jones.
Quad Cities' right-hander Jorge Rondon allowed two runs on four hits over 4.0 innings, fanning seven. Righty Michael Blazek (W, 1-0 struck out seven more while yielding three runs over 3.0 innings for the River Bandits.
Hansen finished 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI for the LumberKings. Aside from Shepherd's night, Vasquez (2-for-4, four runs, two RBI), Matt Adams (3-for-6, two runs scored), Robert Stock (3-for-5, two runs, RBI) and Ryan Jackson (3-for-4, run, RBI) all had big nights for the Bandits.
The LumberKings (4-4) conclude the series against the Quad Cities River Bandits (7-1) tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Jon Hesketh (0-1, 9.54) will make his second start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or www.lumberkings.com.
