Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels held off a Peoria rally in the ninth inning for an 8-6 win over the Chiefs at Perfect Game Field on Thursday night. Kernels starter Patrick Corbin (2-0) allowed two runs in the first inning, but held the Chiefs to just three hits over seven innings for the win.

The Kernels offense has heated up with the spring weather as they had 11 hits in the game. Luis Jimenez went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI as Mike Trout, Carlos Ramirez and Randall Grichuk added two hits each. Eric Oliver added a double and 2 RBI and Kevin Ramos drove in a run on a sac fly.

Peoria scored four runs in the eighth inning as reliever C.J. Bressoud got two quick outs in the inning. But then a walk, a hit batter and four Chief hits cut the Kernels lead to 8-6. Jon Bachanov completed the ninth and got some great defensive help from Michael Wing, as he turned a 4-3 double play with runners on the corners in the ninth to end the game.

Peoria reliever Tim Clubb (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits over an inning in relief of starter Jonathon Nagel. Greg Rohan was 2-4 with two doubles and 3 RBI and Justin Bour was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Peoria offense.
