Sharks Fall 7-1 to the Sound Tigers

WORCESTER, MA - Freddie Hamilton returned from San Jose and netted a goal, but it wasn't enough to put the Sharks on top, as the Worcester Sharks (2-4-0-0, 4 pts) fell 7-1 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (2-5-1-0, 5 pts) on Friday night at the DCU Center.

Of the eight goals scored, five came from power plays, with the Sound Tigers converting on four of nine opportunities. Bridgeport starting goaltender Anders Nilsson had a strong outing, going 27-for-28 in the win for the Sound Tigers. Both Sharks goalies saw action tonight with starting goaltender Harri Sateri going 23-for-29 and Troy Grosenick going 6-for-7. The star performers for the night were Bridgeport's Ryan Strome (2-3-5) and Mike Halmo (2-2-4), who each picked up a pair of goals as the Sound Tigers broke a five game losing skid.

Physicality was the name of the game in the opening period with both teams hitting hard. Ryan Strome (2nd), the star rookie for Bridgeport, gave the Sound Tigers the lead when he wristed a shot past Sateri from the top of the left circle at 15:51, assisted by Anders Lee and Joe Diamond. The period ended with Bridgeport leading 1-0 but the Sharks outshot the Sound Tigers 12-9.

The game erupted in the middle period with a flurry of fights and goals for the Sound Tigers, who scored four times in the period, putting them up 5-0. The first goal of the period at 3:17 was the second of the night for Ryan Strome (3rd) who took advantage on the power play of a blocked shot floating in front of the net, putting the puck in the five hole to make the score 2-0 Bridgeport. Nick Larson (1st) got his first goal of the season when he found himself right in front of the net with the puck at 10:52 and flipped it past Sateri, which gave Bridgeport the 3-0 advantage. The second power play goal of the game came at 16:47 when Mike Halmo (3rd) got in on the scoring action off a feed from Strome. Less than two minutes later at 18:41 Halmo (4th) got his second power play goal of the night putting the Sound Tigers up 5-0. At 16:54 Taylor Doherty (2nd FM) and Brett Gallant (3rd FM) dropped the gloves in a heated fight ending in 10 minute misconducts for Gallant and Justin Johnson and five for fighting on Doherty. Bridgeport ended the period 3-5 on the power play and outshot Worcester 17-9.

A change was made by Worcester midway through the third period, after the Sound Tigers netted their sixth goal. Joe Diamond (2nd) deflected a shot from Alan Quine over Sateri at 4:39, putting Bridgeport up 6-0. Sateri was then taken out, replaced by rookie goaltender Troy Grosenick. At 6:12 John Persson got one by Grosenick off the faceoff on a five-on-three, but after that Grosenick was strong, making 6-of-7 total. The lone goal for the Sharks came at 13:03 when Freddie Hamilton (2nd) scored a power play goal from the top of the right circle to make the score 7-1. The game ended with a slew of penalties as a brawl broke out by the benches. Gallant was given his second misconduct of the game at 19:30 and a number of other players were penalized. However it didn't make much of a difference, as the game ended 30 seconds later with a final score of 7-1.
