IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation donated $15,000 to three local charities prior to games at Mile One Centre in October.

KidSport, the Newfoundland and Labrador Division of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region, all received $5,000 to support their endeavours in this province.

KidSport will use their funds to pay for registration and/or sports equipment for underprivileged children province-wide.

"With the support of the IceCaps we should be able to help cover the costs of approximately 25 kids to play sports this year. That's 25 kids that wouldn't be able to play without these funds," said Troy Croft, Executive Director, Sport NL.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is using the donation to launch their first ever Jump Fest program to be held February 6, 2014 at the Techniplex in St. John's.

"Jump Fest is a way to promote skipping, an inexpensive and effective form of exercise, to children from kindergarten to Grade Six here in the greater St. John's area," said Brittany Tibbo, event coordinator. "We are using the money to bus approximately 1,500 students to the event and for other expenses related to the program.

"The funding from the IceCaps is crucial because without their help we wouldn't be able to get the children to the event. Plus, having the IceCaps' support gives this a 'cool factor' for the kids."

Paula Tessier, Community Relations Officer, Newfoundland and Labrador, for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region, says more than 300 women in this province are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

"Breast cancer continues to be the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in this province," said Ms. Tessier. "With the funds that the IceCaps provided, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of women and men throughout the region."

Now entering their third season, the St. John's IceCaps, in conjunction with the Williams Family Foundation and IceCaps Care, have donated approximately $1 million through financial and in-kind donations, impacting more than 500 organizations throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
