Zach Redmond scored the game-winner and added an assist in his season debut as the St. John's IceCaps doubled the Portland Pirates 4-2 Friday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.

Jason Jaffray and Eric O'Dell also had a goal and a helper for the IceCaps, while netminder Eddie Pasquale was sharp between the pipes, turning aside 39 Pirate shots. Redmond had been sidelined all season with a lower-body injury.

The IceCaps came out flying and took a 3-0 lead after the first period. JC Lipon opened the scoring at the 8:38 mark, driving to the net and converting a pass from O'Dell; Jaffray scored shorthanded from Redmond at 15:14 and then Redmond fired a bullet from the point, on the powerplay with only 8 seconds left in the period. Jaffray and Kichton were credited with assists on Redmond's tally.

The Pirates inched to within one in the second as Brendan Shinniman scored twice -- shorthanded and on an odd-man rush -- before Eric O'Dell's goal at 17:01. Will O'Neill had the lone assist on O'Dell's team-leading 6th goal.

The IceCaps travel to Worcester to play the Sharks tomorrow night (8:30 PM NT) at the DCU Center. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930 AM This is Newfoundland Labrador. Pregame show begins a half hour before puck drop.
