Shaffer Slows Down Kalamazoo Bats

Nolan Shaffer made his first start for the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti and he shut down the Kalamazoo Kings offense, as the Sliders on 2-0. Shaffer threw eight scoreless innings and only allowed three hits earning the win.

The Sliders were able to scratch out two runs with only clubbing five hits. Jonnie Knoble scored the first run for Midwest in the third inning. He walked, advanced to second on a groundout, stole thirdbase, and scored on a Clay McCord sacrifice fly.

Midwest added an insurance run in the eighth. Bryan Bonner singled and later scored on a Robbie Knapp groundout.

Closer Arshwin Asjes came on in the ninth earning his seventh save of the season.

Friday night's game will begin at 7:05 p.m. at EMU's Oestrike Stadium for the middle game of the series against Kalamazoo. The Sliders (26-27) will put Kyle Kearcher (1-6, 5.28) on the mound to try to reach .500.
