Evansville Otters News Release
July 23, 2009, Evansville, IN - The Gateway Grizzlies took game one of a three game series over the Evansville Otters 7-2 Thursday at Bosse Field.
The Grizzlies capitalized on four Otters errors, scoring five unearned runs. They plated the first run of the game in the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Chad Rothford and Danny Morrow. In the fourth, the Otters defense reared its ugly head, as an Eric Blackwell throwing error allowed two runs to score. Later in the inning, Blackwell delivered a perfect throw across the infield to Tyler Diamond, but Diamond was unable to squeeze it, and the ball rolled all the way back to the dugout, allowing another unearned run to score.
The Grizzlies took their 4-0 lead to the 8th inning, when they added two more runs on a Jon Quigley single with the bases loaded. The Otters finally got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Tyler Diamond tripled off of the centerfield wall with one out, and scored on Andre Liscinsky's infield single. Later, with the bases loaded, Josh Howard hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 6-2. The Grizzlies would add the final tally of the game when Charlie Lisk scored from second base on a Liscinsky throwing error in the ninth inning.
Renfrow fell to 3-4, allowing only two earned runs in 7.2 innings and striking out a season-high ten. Grizzlies' starter Jamie Arneson advanced to 3-0 as he held the Otters scoreless through his six innings. He walked three and struck out seven. The Otters have now lost seven in a row and have not won since the all-star break. They will have a chance to break the losing streak Friday at 7:05pm CDT, with fireworks to follow the game.
