Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - Not even a lack of sleep could stop the Lake Erie Crushers offense on Thursday night.
After traveling through the night to come back from St. Louis, the Crushers put on quite a homecoming as they destroyed the Florence Freedom by the final of 15-4. Lake Erie did most of their damage in the first four innings as they scored 14 runs and bashed out 17 hits to seize command of the game.
Andrew Davis started the run parade in the first inning with a two-run homer to right field. Davis now has 13 home runs and 50 RBI on the season. The Crushers would then strike for six runs in the second inning as Wayne Bond, Brad Griffiths, Drew Saylor, Gordon Gronkowski, and Arden McWilliams all delivered RBI singles. Jodam Rivera kept up the beat in the third inning with a two-run homer to left. The offensive surge continued into the fourth inning as McWilliams and Eddie Tisdale hit run scoring singles and Bond added a two run double.
The offensive support made things easy on Lake Erie starter Paul Fagan, who worked six efficient innings, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. The left-hander became the first pitcher in the Frontier League to reach nine wins on the season. "A lot of my success this year goes to my defense," said Fagan afterwards. "They bail me out of a lot of jams and getting all this support from the offense makes my job easier as well."
The loss went to Florence's Jordan Towns, who lasted just an inning and a third while giving up seven runs on seven hits.
The Crushers improve to 30-24 with the win and will continue their series with the Freedom on Friday night at 7:05 P.M. Brent Lysander will get the start for Lake Erie against Florence's Rob Neigebauer.
