Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (27-28), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Traverse City Beach Bums (24-31) 6-1 Thursday night at CONSOL Energy Park.

The scoring got started in the second when Wild Things' designated hitter Jacob Dempsey led off the inning with a solo homerun, his 15th of the season. The team would add two more in the third to go up 3-0. After loading the bases with no outs, first baseman Ernie Banks hit into a fielder's choice allowing the game-winning run to score, followed by a sacrifice fly by Dempsey for insurance.

The Wild Things took advantage of Beach Bums starter Jason Kiley (4-7) who went just four innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while taking the loss. Dempsey led all batters, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Second baseman Michael Parker went 3-5, extending his hitting streak to 18 straight games. Outfielder Phil Laurent added his eighth homerun of the season.

The Wild Things used a solid start by pitcher Craig Snipp (2-1) who went seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits, earning the win. Snipp had strong defense playing behind him, committing no errors and turning double plays at crucial times to get him out of jams.

The Wild Things and Beach Bums continue their series Friday night on a fireworks night at CONSOL Energy Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with airtime on 95.3 FM WJPA set for 6:55. Tickets are available for the remaining games on the home stand at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
