Gateway Grizzlies News Release
EVANSVILLE, IND.-Jamie Arneson tossed six shutout innings Thursday night as the Grizzlies defeated the Evansville Otters 7-2 in the opener of a three-game series at Bosse Field. The Grizzlies have now won six consecutive series-opening games.
Gateway (23-31) has won two straight and three of their last four games.
Arneson allowed just five hits and improved to 3-0 in five appearances this year for the Grizzlies. He walked three and struck out seven.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Danny Morrow. Morrow added his second RBI of the night in a three-run fourth inning that put the Grizzlies up 4-0. They took advantage of two Evansville errors in the inning to score a pair of unearned runs.
Morrow finished 1-4 with the pair of RBIs.
Jonathan Quigley stretched the Grizzlies lead to 6-0 with a two-run single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Quigley was 1-4.
Stephen Holdren was the only Grizzlies hitter with more than a single hit. He finished 2-4
Evansville (16-39) scored their runs in the bottom of the eighth against Grizzlies reliever Scott Kelly. Eric Ridener pitched a perfect ninth to finish it out.
The Grizzlies and Otters will continue the series with game two of the series Friday night in Evansville. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
