River City Rascals News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The River City Rascals and Windy City ThunderBolts agreed today to exchange catcher Pete Paris for right-handed pitcher Stephen Flake. The deal comes a day after River City sent outfielder Kevin Reynolds to the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association for left-handed pitcher Brent Solich.
The Rascals get a pitcher in Flake with Frontier League experience and a championship ring, which he won last season with Windy City. The Georgia native was 10-3 last season with a 4.04 ERA in 19 starts. Flake struck out 83 over 118 innings pitched with 116 hits allowed in 2008. This year, the right-hander has racked up a 1-2 mark with a 6.35 ERA in 16 appearances (seven starts).
Paris appeared in 20 games for the Rascals this season, hitting .359 with 14 hits in 39 at-bats. The Georgia College and State product knocked in nine runs and had at least one hit in 12 of his 18 games with an at-bat.
The Rascals and Bolts meet tonight in the first of three contests at Standard Bank Stadium. Flake will be in uniform for River City tonight and will wear number two.
This deal comes a day after the Rascals sent out another position player, Reynolds, to Pensacola in the independent American Association. Solich comes to the Rascals with a 1-1 record and a 3.00 ERA in 16 games out of the bullpen. The southpaw whiffed 19 hitters to only eight walks in 27 innings and gives the Rascals a lefty out of the pen. Solich completed his collegiate career in 2008 at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette, compiling a 5.95 ERA in 18 appearances.
Reynolds pieced together a .275 batting average in 52 games for River City, connecting for 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 21 RBI. The St. Peters native swiped 15 bags and scored 35 runs, the fourth highest total on the team.
Solich will be active tonight and wear number five for River City, who now has 12 pitchers and 12 position players on the active 24 man roster.
The River City Rascals return home for a three game series against the Rockford RiverHawks on Sunday, July 26th at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Game time is slated for 6:01 p.m. on Purina One Hope Sunday.
